The 3D Pinball Space Cadet is an arcade pinball game that was developed by Cinematronics and published by Maxis on 1995. The game comes free as a demo version on Windows 95 Plus, NT, ME, 2000 on Windows XP.
3D Pinball - Space Cadet is much like other pinball games for PCs, such as Pinball Arcade. What makes the former unique is its origin and relation to the classic Full Tilt! Pinball games originally developed by Cinematronics. It's based on its Space Cadet table theme.

Full Tilt! Pinball was a pinball game that was developed by Cinematronics back in 1995. It featured pre-rendered 3D graphics at the time and three tables. Each table had a display on either side that showed the players' score, ball number, and player number. It also displayed various information and a table-specific background image to players.
To anyone who has used the Windows operating system ever since its early days will take a trip down memory lane with 3D Pinball - Space Cadet. This nostalgic pinball game will look and play as it did all those years ago. The gameplay experience that you know and love is kept intact in this version. It's highly recommended for fans of the game.
The look and feel of Full Tilt! Pinball and 3D Pinball are similar, with a few exceptions: The latter contains only the Space Cadet table and only supports 640480-pixel resolution, while the former supports three different resolutions up to 1024768 pixels. The image on the side is a two-dimensional image as opposed to pre-rendered 3D. The words Maxis and Cinematronics have been changed from the yellow to a dark red, making them harder to see. It sports a splash screen that merely says 3D Pinball and shows a small pinball graphic with faded edges. Music is not enabled by default in 3D Pinball. It has fewer soundtracks that are inspired by the original game. A hidden test mode is also available.
Forget Solitaire and Minesweeper. The best game ever included with Windows was a virtual pinball table. With blinking lights and arcade sounds, 3D Pinball for Windows seemed like magic back in 1995, and is surprisingly playable even today.

On a recent weekend, my daughters and I were perusing the various booths at a local flea market and came upon an old pinball machine. The machine had been refurbished and worked great with loud music, flashing lights, and all sorts of cool sound effects. My daughters got a big kick out of the game, and the three of us played for close to an hour.
However, the Space Cadet Pinball game disappeared from the catalog of games available for Windows Vista and Windows 7, therefore, if you want to play it on these versions you must download 3D Pinball for free.

In Windows XP, there is an interesting arcade game called 3D Pinball, which comes built-in with the operating system for free. Pinball developed by Cinematronics and published by Maxis in 1995 with only Space Cadet table.3D Pinball: Space Cadet had been packaged with Microsoft Plus! 95 and later included in Windows NT, Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows XP is the last version of Windows OS that bundled with the free pinball simulation game, and the Pinball game has since been removed and dropped from Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Just insert your game CD in your drive and run the installer. If you do not have DOSBox installed, the installer for the DOS games will download and install the latest for you. You will be given a chance to choice a different DOSBox than one installed in "Program Files\DOSBox", if you wish. The installers that make use of ScummVM can also download and install ScummVM.

In the original release of Space Cadet Pinball, the included help was two files: an image of the table, and a Word document describing the table and game play. Somewhere between Windows 95 & Windows 2000 Microsoft integrated help into the program. Unfortunately, the integrated help contains less information than the original standalone file. For example, the details of the different missions have disappeared. If you want the full scoop, Google "pinball.doc maelstrom".
