ClueFinders was conceived as a spiritual successor to the Reader Rabbit series.[5] The first ClueFinders title, The ClueFinders 3rd Grade Adventures: The Mystery of Mathra, was released in 1998, with subsequent games being released within the next two years. The ClueFinders 4th Grade Adventures was released in 2000.[6] The Learning Company used their new game as the prototype for Internet Applet technology, which allowed users to download supplementary activities from the ClueFinders website.[7] The ClueFinders 4th Grade Adventures was also the first game to include the A.D.A.P.T technology, which allowed teachers and parents to monitor the player's progress and included auto-adjustable levels based on the player's ability.[8]

As macOS has grown in popularity, Mac versions of games are becoming much more common. This is apparent if you browse through the video game distribution service, Steam. If you get Steam for your Mac, you can buy and download tons of new and classic games and play them right on your Mac with almost no issues.

The Internet trend. As my friend Warren Buckleitner, Editor ofChildren's Software Review (CSR) is fond of saying, "No one willuninvent the Internet; it ain't going away. If you're a teacherwith no email, no web site, and no web access, you'll soon be in infodarkness." This is what is coming: 1999, according to the research firmeMarketer, 14 million children aged two to 12 in the U.S. had Internetaccess. Jupiter Communications predicts that by the end of 2000 this same agegroup outnumbered teens and college students online and the currentpercentage of children now online will almost double in the next five years(PC Almanac, 2000)! New software demos are now available as free downloadsand soon much children's software may be available by fee baseddownloads. Eventually software may shift from being a physical product to acontinuous service delivered over the Internet (Lohr, 2000). Websitedevelopment quality is improving. (See for example, Germany's softwarepublisher Tivola.) Sites for teachers, par ents and children are exploding.Even for a program on a relatively tight budget, the ability to obtain acomputer and Internet access through a modem for $25.00 a month (People PC)may now make sense.

The digital trend. Software applications, which used to arrive ondisks and now come on CD-ROMs, will begin to arrive on DVDs. Soon we'llalso be able to download video almost as easy as people now downloadincreasingly better sounding MP3 music (Spanbauer, 2000). Americans will buyan estimated 22 million digital cameras annually by 2003 (Graham, 2000).These will continue to drop in price and be increasingly used fordocumentation of individual development, curricular projects, simple web sitedevelopment, or as the first step in a web or hard drive based storagesystem.

The wireless trend. Wireless technology frees us from cords thatconnect a keyboard, a mouse, a printer or scanner, or even a handheldcomputer. LeapFrog's new LeapPad Pro, a touch sensitive notebook shouldbecome one example of the fusion of wireless technology and speechproduction. Wireless will encourage greater variations in the arrangement ofspace, enable a greater distance between user and monitor, and allow teachersto share computer based information more easily with groups. Wireless willhave profound influences on how we interact with technology. Look at whatwireless TV controllers have done for toys. 2ff7e9595c
